Akaukuejo Rest Camp
Akaukuejo Rest Camp
Situated on the western side of Etosha National Park, Okaukuejo is one of the 3 rest camps inside the park. It is Etosha’s longest established rest camp and the main administrative centre and headquarters of the Etosha Ecological Institute, where research and nature conservation management for Etosha is conducted.
The special attraction of Okaukuejo is the illuminated waterhole just outside the perimeter of the camp where animals may be viewed without the limitations imposed by a vehicle. Elephant enthusiasts can have their fill as herds, more than forty at times, come to drink. There is a variety of accommodation and public facilities, including a shop, filling station, swimming pool and restaurant. Rest camps must be reached before sunset and may only be left after sunrise.
